Instrument Flight Training

Become a Safer, More Confident Pilot – Master Flight in Any Weather

Our Instrument Rating program at SEFT is designed to elevate your skills and proficiency well beyond the foundational private pilot level.

Earning an instrument rating not only enhances your capabilities as a pilot but also opens new opportunities, including increased employ-ability in the aviation industry and lower insurance premiums.

Why Pursue an Instrument Rating?

With this rating, you’ll be able to fly safely through clouds, fog, and other adverse weather conditions using only your instruments – a skill set that is essential for professional pilots and seasoned aviators alike.

An instrument rating improves both your safety and your versatility as a pilot. Many aviation employers require their pilots to be instrument-rated, making this qualification essential for anyone pursuing a career in aviation.

It also allows you to fly more confidently, knowing you’re equipped to handle weather changes and low-visibility situations.

Program Requirements

The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours of training under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) to qualify for the instrument rating. This rating can be obtained concurrently while building hours toward a Commercial Pilot License, making it a valuable and efficient step in your aviation journey.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

  • A Private Pilot’s License or Higher
  • Medical Certificate: A minimum of an FAA Third Class Medical Certificate
  • Examinations: You’ll complete both an FAA knowledge test specific to instrument flight and a practical test demonstrating your IFR capabilities

Flexible Scheduling and Timeline

We offer a flexible schedule, allowing you to fly as often as your schedule permits. While some students complete their instrument rating in a few months, others may take longer depending on their availability and goals. Our program is tailored to fit your pace and progress, ensuring you build skills confidently.
