Private Flight Training

There is no greater thrill or sense of accomplishment than learning how to fly

Experience the thrill and freedom of piloting an aircraft. Our Private Pilot License (PPL) program provides the skills and confidence you need to navigate today’s dynamic flight environment.

Designed for both aspiring career pilots and hobbyists, the PPL is your first major step in aviation, qualifying you to fly a single-engine aircraft under Visual Flight Rules (VFR).

Comprehensive Private Pilot License Program

Our PPL program combines flight theory with hands-on experience, covering all aspects of safe and confident piloting.

Here’s what you’ll master:

  • Aerodynamics & Flight Mechanics: Understand the principles of lift, drag, thrust, and gravity, and how these forces allow airplanes to take off, cruise, and land safely.
  • Weather and Meteorology: Learn to interpret weather reports and forecasts, helping you make informed flight decisions.
  • Navigation & Flight Planning: Gain proficiency with aeronautical charts, GPS systems, and other navigation tools to plan and execute safe and accurate flights.
  • Communication: Develop skills in radio communication with air traffic control for coordinated and efficient navigation through both controlled and uncontrolled airspace.
  • Emergency Procedures: Practice how to respond calmly and effectively to a variety of in-flight situations, from weather challenges to engine issues.

Program Requirements

To get started, you’ll need to meet a few FAA requirements:

  • Age: You must be at least 17 years old by your final practical exam checkride. You’ll be able to begin solo flights (around half way through your training) as early as 16. You can begin training at any age.
  • Medical Certificate: A minimum of a Third-Class Medical Certificate from an FAA-authorized aviation medical examiner is required.
  • English Proficiency: Per FAA requirements, all students must be proficient in English for both oral and written communication.
  • TSA Citizenship Verification: Per TSA requirements, all students must prove their US citizenship (typically by presenting a valid US passport), or complete the TSA Flight Training Security Program (FTSP). If you are not a US citizen, please contact us for more information as soon as possible, the FTSP process can often take 1-2 months.

Training Structure

  • Ground School: Start with self-guided ground school, where you’ll learn about flight theory, airspace regulations, navigation, and weather. We offer discounts on guided online ground school programs that will prepare you for the FAA’s written knowledge test. You’ll also have ground lessons with your instructor throughout your training to master your knowledge.
  • Flight Training: Complete a minimum of 40 hours of flight time, including at least 20 hours of instruction with an instructor and 10 hours of solo flight time. From your first takeoff to your final solo cross-country flight, our experienced instructors will guide you every step of the way.
  • Checkride: Your training culminates in an FAA checkride, or practical test, with an FAA-designated examiner. Here, you’ll demonstrate both your knowledge and flight abilities to earn your PPL.

Timeline

  • On average, students complete their PPL in 4–8 months, though this can vary depending on your schedule, learning pace, and weather conditions. Our instructors are here to support you at every stage, ensuring you progress at a comfortable and achievable rate.
  • We operate on a student-centered schedule, allowing you to fly as frequently or as infrequently as you prefer. Many students fly at least twice per week to reinforce their skills and build confidence, though you are welcome to set a pace that works best for you.

Costs

Costs vary by aircraft chosen. Learn more about our available aircraft here:

Earning your PPL opens up a world of possibilities. It gives you the freedom to fly recreationally or travel with friends and family, and to build valuable flight experience. A PPL is also your starting point for pursuing advanced certifications, including an Instrument Rating or Commercial Pilot License.
